Tin disulfide is an inorganic compound with a chemical formula of SnS2. It is an yellow hexagonal flake that has it's CdI2 crystal structure. It isn't very soluble the water but is soluble in aqua regia and hot alkaline liquids, and also in sodium sulfide Solution, which is frequently used as golden paint.

The direct current arc plasma method was employed to create multi-walled carbon-carbon nanotube-confined metal nanostructures (Sn@MWCNT) as an initial precursor in a methane atmospheric environment. Then SnS_2@MWCNT nanostructures were obtained through their sulfurization reactions. The results of the physical characterization of the materials such as Raman, Xray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) demonstrated that the length of the multi-walled carbon nanotubes was around 400nm. In addition, the surface carbon layer was well crystallized it was thicker than the surrounding carbon, about 10 nanometers. Lithium-ion-based batteries using Sn S2@MWCNT nanostructures for anodes materials exhibit a decent electrochemical performance. The initial charged-discharge Coulomb effectiveness is 71%, with 50 cycles, this capacity still remains at 703mAh?g-1. The characteristics of high-capacity SnS_2@MWCNT nanostructured electrodes come from the fact that various types of active materials have the capacity in combination, and the reactions platform of each one differs.

Study on electrochemical performance of tin disulfide/single-walled carbon nanotube composite material used as anode material for lithium-ion battery

A novel composite made up of SnS2 in combination with carbon nanotubes single-walled (SWCNTs) was prepared by an easy method of solvothermal. It has excellent electrochemical characteristics after being connected to the negative electrode material of lithium Ion batteries. At a very high current density of 1 A/g hundred cycles it has a reversible specific power of more than 510 milliamps/g. For comparison, we utilized this same method to create a single SnS2 material and conducted electrical tests with it. Results indicate that although the initial capacity of the SnS2 material is excellent, the cycle efficiency is low and decreases rapidly after less than 20 cycles. The superior efficiency of the composite in batteries made from lithium is believed to be the result of the synergy between two parts made up of SnS2 along with SWCNTs.
